Controller of Examinations

The Office of the Controller of Examinations (CoE) at St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi, has been functioning since the conferment of autonomy in 2009–2010. It is entrusted with the responsibility of assessing the continuous learning process of students while maintaining high standards of quality and confidentiality in all examination procedures. The office upholds a credible, objective and transparent system of evaluation in strict alignment with the academic calendar and institutional regulations.

Evaluation consists of Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and End-Semester Examinations (ESE). CIA includes centrally organized tests along with assignments, online quizzes, seminars and class performance monitored by the faculty. Marks are published transparently and discrepancies, if any, are rectified before submission to the CoE office. ESEs are conducted only for students who have completed their CIA requirements. Undergraduate answer scripts undergo centralized evaluation, while postgraduate scripts are subjected to a double valuation process.

Results are reviewed in the Awards Committee, published promptly and followed by the issue of mark statements. Facilities for revaluation, retotalling and special examinations are also provided, along with supplementary examinations for final-year students. With student welfare as its priority, the CoE office ensures efficiency, fairness and academic integrity in all its functions. It is the duty of the Office of the Controller of Examinations to arrange, prepare, schedule, conduct, publish and maintain the records of all UG, PG and Ph.D. programmes.
